I am the daughter of Alfred & Billie Escobedo and the Granddaughter of Ted & Josephine Hernandez, all of Globe. I am the mother of three grown children, Nicole, Robert Jr., and Gregg, and the grandmother of eight; Jenna Rae, Micaela, Angelica, Robert III, Alexis, Shelby, Bailee Rae, & Bubba Tuff. I am a 1972 Globe High School graduate, and am currently attending Gila community College working toward a criminal justice degree and serve on several boards in our community. I have a broad back round of work and life-related experiences.
The past ten years have been passionately dedicated toward the creation and cultivation of the D.V.V.A. Response Team, a Domestic Violence Victim’s Advocate program in our community. I interact as a liaison for youth, victims and families of domestic violence and sexual assault by contacting & coordinating appropriate resources and enhancing the education and awareness of the impact family violence has on our community. I also work to address the needs and circumstances of older and disabled individuals and under-served populations. I have a strong commitment to Gila County, The City of Globe, the youth, elderly and disabled.
In conjunction with the various projects focusing on raising community awareness around issues dealing in the effects of diversity, cultural competency and the effect of underage drinking and drugs in our communities, I refined the: La Reina de Las Flored” Scholarship Pageant sponsored by Los Vecinos Y Companeros, a non-profit organization in existence in our community for approximately 22 years. The visualization of the scholarship pageant is currently to raise educational and career aspirations; enhance personal development through a support network of parents, businesses, ECT. And to decrease teen pregnancy, drug use and gang violence among our young Hispanic females. We also address issues such as cultural identity, leadership skills, professionalism and self-esteem. This allows the girls to not only give back to the community, but also to provide support to the program that helped them succeed.
