Thea Wilshire
Representing District 2, Thea Wilshire works diligently to serve the needs of her constituents. She pushed for the creation of a city web site, worked collaboratively with other council members to hire the city’s first full-time city attorney and to update the City of Globe’s Municipal Code, serves as the Ex Officio council representative to the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts, has sponsored several Town Hall meetings on recycling, supports youth and senior services, and is on the Globe Parks and Recreation Committee.
Wilshire has been honored at state and national levels for her leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. She holds master’s degrees in psychology and theology, a doctorate in clinical psychology, and is a graduate of both Project CENTRL, a highly competitive 2-year rural leadership development program for the State of Arizona, and the Southern Gila County Leadership Academy. She works as an administrator for the San Carlos Apache Wellness Center which recently won the “National Behavioral Health Program of the Year” award.
In addition to her council work, Wilshire is the chair of the Old Dominion Historic Mine Park committee, wrote the Southern Gila County Resource and Recycling Guide, and worked hard to open the Globe Tool Lending Library – the first community-wide tool lending program for the state of Arizona! Wilshire volunteers with the Main Street Program, worked on the train depot renovations, and supports Globe Clean and Beautiful. On the state level, she worked on increasing mental health services for the deaf and hard of hearing through the Arizona Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and is an invited participant in multiple work groups and forums on the coordination of involuntary hospitalization for on-reservation Native Americans.
Wilshire lives in a restored 1910 Craftsman home with her two dogs. She enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, spending time with friends and family, and community development.
