Notice to Commercial Property Owners

The City of Globe has arranged for a third-party engineering team to conduct safety assessments of commercial buildings impacted by the recent flood event. These inspections are required to evaluate the effect of the flood on each property and the interaction between neighboring buildings to determine whether buildings are safe for public use.

When: Wednesday and Thursday of this week (10/8/2025 and 10/9/2025)
Where: Commercial buildings impacted by the flood

What to Expect:
• Engineers will begin site visits early Wednesday morning and continue through Thursday evening. Evaluations are focused on evaluating the effects of the flood on the structures.
• Property owners or representatives must have someone on site to provide access and information.
• Rapid assessments have been underway or completed. A posted placard will then be posted on the structure:
o Green = Safe for public use
o Yellow = Restricted use
o Red = Unsafe / No entry permitted

_____________________________
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I have to have an assessment?
A: Yes. All commercial properties in the flood path must have a Rapid Assessment to determine their safety for occupancy and public use.

Q: What if my building is posted with a Yellow or Red placard?
A: If you receive a Yellow (restricted use) or Red (unsafe) placard, a structural assessment is required and you may also seek at your own cost a secondary engineers assessment from an AZ licensed structural engineer.

Q: Will the assessment cost me anything?
A: No. The City of Globe has arranged for these third-party Engineering assessments at no cost to commercial property owners.

Q: Why is this necessary?
A: The recent flood event may have caused structural damage that is not immediately visible. These assessments ensure public health/safety, protect neighboring structures, protect business owners from liability, and help guide restoration efforts.

Q: What should I do if I believe my property was missed?
A: If you are in the flood path but were not contacted, please reach out to the City of Globe Building Department 1(928) 425-7146 x219, immediately to ensure your property is scheduled for assessment.

Q: Who will see the results of my assessment?
A: The results will be shared with the City of Globe Building Department, the property owner, or identified representative, once reports have been completed. Placards will be posted on buildings to clearly indicate safety status for the public.

MAYOR MESSAGE (10-7-2025)

Due to the ongoing flood recovery efforts, we have made the decision to postpone the State of The City Address at this time that was scheduled for this Thursday, October 9th. Our priority remains focused on supporting our residents and businesses as we continue working through this recovery process. A new date will be announced once the situation has stabilized, and more immediate needs have been addressed.

To all our community residents, please be aware of the potential for significant rainfall later this week as the remnants of Hurricane Priscilla approach. Rain chances are expected to begin increasing Thursday, with the heaviest rainfall likely Friday through the weekend.

You can stay informed by:
• Monitoring weather updates at https://tinyurl.com/mp9nj8d
• Signing up for alerts through Gila County Emergency Services to receive timely warning directly to your phone. https://gilacountyaz.genasys.com/portal/en
• Downloading the City of Globe app and signing up for notifications. Search “City of Globe” on both iphone and android phones.

For residents in need of sandbags, they will be available at the following locations:
• City Public Works Yard - 150 S. Hagen Rd.
• Downtown by the Teepee near the Globe Public Library - 339 S. Broad St.
• Gila County is also providing sandbags at their public works location at 745 Rose Mofford Way and Dixon Rocks & Materials at 1990 E Ash St. also has sandbags available.

Let us continue our prayers for our community that Mother Nature spares us from a repeat of the devastating rain we experienced last week.

To support the ongoing recovery process for our local businesses and residents, initial property evaluations are currently underway.
As part of this process, official notices will be posted on homes and businesses to indicate the safety status of each structure.
• A green indicates safe to enter and proceed with work.
• A yellow tag indicates some safety concerns are present-proceed with caution.
• A red tag indicates do not enter due to structural hazards.

These initial assessments are a critical step in ensuring the safety of all residents, workers, and visitors as recovery efforts continue. In addition, the City of Globe will be bringing in an outside technical assessment team, structural engineer, and a Fire Marshal for further assessment and evaluation of commercial buildings.

Business owners also have the option to hire their own independent engineers if they wish to obtain a second opinion or additional guidance. Our goal is to ensure that any buildings that are structurally safe can move forward with recovery efforts as quickly and safely as possible.

A decision has been made to keep the north end of Broad Street closed through this Sunday, October 12 to allow for ongoing business cleanup efforts and to maintain the security of private property.

Please note that some businesses within the restricted area are now open, with parking available outside of the closure. We encourage residents and visitors to support them as we continue recovery efforts. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to restore our community.
We continue to strongly encourage cash donations to the United Fund of Globe-Miami. This grant relief program has been created in partnership with Salvation Army; for coordination of the residential relief efforts, and with Local First Arizona, who will be coordinating the Business Flood Relief grant for affected local businesses. The Salvation Army is now actively taking applications for the Residential Flood Relief Grant.

All funding donated will go directly to local businesses and residents in Globe-Miami, through United Fund of Globe-Miami so it follows the proper channel for distribution.

You can contribute in several ways:
Zelle or PayPal: Send donations to the United Fund of Globe-Miami
In Person – Donate directly at First Interstate Bank
161 West Oak Street – Globe, Arizona
By Mail – Send to:
United Fund of Globe-Miami
P.O. Box 2160
Globe, Arizona 85502

Your support, big or small, makes a difference. Let’s continue to lift each other up and help our community recover and rebuild stronger than ever. Updates will be posted when this program goes live.
We also encourage supporting those businesses that have set up their own personal GoFundMe accounts that have been created to help them reopen their doors again.

May God continue to bless and protect our community.

MAYOR MESSAGE (10-4-2025) It is truly amazing to see how much has been accomplished just seven days after the flood. The progress is a testament to the resilience and strength of our community and the incredible volunteers who have stepped up to help. Thank you for showing up, for caring, and for making a difference. Our staff continues to work tirelessly to ensure that all necessary procedures are properly completed and documented, in order to secure the highest level of funding available. They are coordinating closely with DEMA, state officials, and consulting with experts who are well versed in this process. The ultimate goal is to meet the required dollar threshold that allows us to submit our case to the Governor’s Office. From there, it can be passed on to the federal level for a Federal Disaster Declaration, a key step in unlocking additional federal funding for our communities. To support this effort, both the City of Globe and the Town of Miami signed local emergency declarations the next day after the flooding. The county, in turn, issued a broader emergency declaration covering Globe, Miami, County areas, and San Carlos. All three communities are working together, and the total damage assessments from each area will contribute to meeting the combined threshold required for a federal declaration. We truly understand the frustration and urgency many are feeling, wanting immediate answers, support, and relief. Please know that we hear you. However, the process to secure state and federal disaster assistance is complex and must be carefully documented at every step. Meeting all the requirements takes time, but is essential to ensure our communities receive the full support and funding they need and deserve. The city has also established its own Emergency Operations Center and now has a temporary Emergency Manager on staff, working directly under the city’s leadership. At the same time, we remain under the broader umbrella of the county Emergency Manager, maintaining a coordinated response effort. This flood event has drawn both state and national attention, prompting on-site visits from Governor Hobbs, Senator Gallego, and Congressman Crane. We are also grateful for the full support received from Senator Kelly, and Congressman Biggs. There presence and commitment underscore the seriousness of the situation and reinforce the unified effort to bring the necessary resources and recovery support to our region. During discussions with our Legislatures, we were assured that the current federal government shutdown will not affect or delay our pursuit of a federal disaster declaration, which is good news for our communities. As I have mentioned, state and federal assistance takes time due to the necessary documentation and approval process. While we continue working toward that long term support, the quickest way to get immediate help to our residents and local businesses is through cash donations to the United Fund of Globe-Miami. The United Fund is partnering with Local First Arizona and the Salvation Army to begin the distributing funds as early as next week. These donations will directly support those affected in both Globe and Miami. You can contribute in several ways: *Zelle or PayPal – Send donations to the United Fund of Globe-Miami *In Person – Donate at First Interstate Bank, 161 W. Oak St. Globe, or any branch *By Mail – Send to: United Fund of Globe-Miami P.O. Box 2160 Globe, Arizona 85502 You can indicate whether your donation is intended to support residents or local businesses so funds can be directed accordingly. We encourage everyone to spread the word and help us continue raising funds for those in need. Every contribution counts and makes an immediate impact in our recovery efforts. Please share this information so everyone is informed and again thank you for your continued support and patience.
