Dale Walters has been in law enforcement for 30 years and since September 2018 has been the Chief of the Globe Police Department.  He started his career as a Detention Officer with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office in 1990.  After successfully testing to become a Deputy, he was assigned to the Page Substation and worked patrol and as a Boat Patrol Officer on Lake Powell until he was hired by the Chandler Police Department in 1995.

He served as a Patrol Officer and later as a certified Field Training Officer before being selected as a Narcotics Detective in 1996.  For the next two years, he worked undercover assignments both with Chandler Detectives and with a State Task Force.  In 1999 he was transferred to the Professional Standards Unit where he was assigned as the Internal Affairs Investigator for the Police Department.

Dale was promoted to Sergeant in 2000 and supervised a patrol team until 2001 when he was reassigned to detectives as the Narcotics Unit Sergeant.  Over the next six and a half years he and his team worked major conspiracy cases locally and across the country.  He and his team seized thousands of pounds of illicit drugs and millions of dollars in drug proceeds.

In 2007 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the Patrol Division as a Shift Commander. He helped open the Chandler Heights Precinct and was the Lieutenant over the K9 Unit.  In 2008 he was moved into the Community Resources Section and oversaw Training, the Department Firing Range, Crime Prevention, DARE, Volunteer Programs, and the School Resource Officers.  In addition, he was selected to be the Support Commander for the Special Assignment Unit (SAU).

In 2010 Dale was promoted to Commander and assigned to the Main station.  His assignments included Patrol Budget, six patrol teams, Bike Team, Special Events, and patrol administrative personnel, Quartermaster, Fleet, Detention Operations, and SAU Commander.  In July of 2013 Commander Walters was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

In 2016 he was promoted to Assistant Chief of Police.  His responsibilities included preparation and management of an annual budget, grant preparation and management, oversight and leadership of 300+ sworn and non-sworn employees representing Criminal Investigations, Dispatch, Forensic Services, Records, Property, Traffic, SWAT, Training, and Community Services within the Operations Division.

Chief Walters has a BA in Sociology from Northern Arizona University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 247. Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in training both law enforcement and community members in a variety of subjects including basic investigation techniques, surveillance, firearms, supervision, leadership, ethics, narcotics recognition, and active shooter response.  He has worked with departmental members and police applicants for over twelve years as a mentor and continually dedicates his time to various community events, programs, and organizations.

Dale has been married to his brilliant Biology Teacher wife Susie for 31 years and they have four wonderful kids.  Three great boys, one in Law Enforcement, one is a Marine and the youngest is a senior in high school.  The most intelligent out of the lot, his daughter, is a Software Engineer.  The family has hunted, built homes, camped, fished, and traveled the country together.
