FINAL BUDGET AND PROPERTY TAX LEVY ADOPTED: At the June 23rd meeting, a Public Hearing for public input was held to adopt the FY 2026-2027 final budget and property tax levy. Resolution 1936 was then adopted to reflect the not to exceed amount of $97,691,340.00, which includes General Fund at $22,269,297.00, Enterprise Funds at $9,018,254.00, Capital Projects at $19,036,654.00, and Grant Capacity at $47,367,135.00.
STATE BUDGET APPOPRIATIONS: Included in the $18.2 billion-dollar final state budget signed by Governor Hobbs this year is an appropriation of $10 million dollars to Gila County for disaster relief. The county will receive $5 million, Miami $2.5 million, and Globe $2.5 million with the distribution to occur prior to July 15. These funds come at an ideal time as we continue to look at all options to meet our $5.5-million-dollar match of our first initial NRCS $24-million-dollar project.
This funding represents more than dollars. It means hope, partnership, and a continued commitment to the people of our region. Since the devastating floods, our residents, businesses, local governments, and community partners have worked tirelessly to recover and rebuild. While there is still much work ahead, this investment provides meaningful relief and helps ensure we can continue moving forward with critical recovery and mitigation projects.
NRCS PROJECT UPDATE: The NRCS Project sediment removal in the creek is progressing as planned according to Tiffany Construction. Work will continue daily, with the exception of July 4th and 5th holiday with an anticipated completion date of July 24th. To date, approximately 50% of the city’s contracted work has been completed. Crews have already removed 30,000 cubic yards of sediment, with a total of 50,000 cubic yards scheduled for removal under the project design. They are currently hauling an average of 20 ten-wheeler loads of sediment per hour. All but two private property owners have signed temporary construction easements for the project. City staff continues to work with the remaining property owners to obtain the necessary signatures so work can proceed as planned.
IGA FLOOD MITIGATION PLAN: Council approved a collaborative Intergovernmental Agreement between Gila County, Town of Miami, and City of Globe for the development of a Long-Term Regional Mitigation Plan for the Globe-Miami region. Freeport McMoran has committed to provide expert resources to assist in developing a long-term comprehensive flood mitigation plan and preparing competitive grant applications. This work will address ongoing flood mitigation needs and the continuing impacts of the 2021 Telegraph Fire burn scar, which has significantly increased flood risks in our community. Both Globe and Miami have approved the IGA pending review by the attorneys and final approval from the Gila County Board of Supervisors. Once that process is complete, we look forward to implementing the agreement and working collaboratively on the projects and services it is intended to provide.
FLIGHT MEDICAL INSURANCE: The annual PHI flight insurance membership was not renewed for city residents this year due to revenue losses as we recover from the flood. We encourage all residents to self-renew their membership. The cost for the annual renewal is $30.00 per year for your entire household if done before August 12, 2026.
