From Arizona Department of Transportation: Daytime closures scheduled on US 60 between Superior & Miami Feb. 25, 26 & 27 Detour in place during closures from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to plan for the following restrictions for blasting operations as part of a bridge replacement project: US 60 between Superior & Miami (mileposts 227-243) will be reduced to one lane with alternating east & westbound travel from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24. Flaggers & a pilot car will assist drivers through the work zone. US 60 between Superior & Miami (mileposts 227-243) will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, Wednesday, Feb. 26, & Thursday, Feb. 27. Flagging operations will be in effect before & after the full closures. US 60 between Miami & Magma Mine Road (mileposts 231-243) will remain open for local traffic only. Detour: Eastbound US 60 drivers use southbound State Route 177 through Winkelman to northbound SR 77. Westbound US 60 drivers use southbound SR 77 through Winkelman to northbound SR 177. Due to the roughly 75-mile length of this detour, drivers may want to consider planning travel before 9 a.m. & after 2 p.m. The detour is estimated to add an additional hour for trips between Superior & Miami. Upcoming full closures & flagging operations: US 60 between Superior & Miami will be reduced to one lane with alternating east- and westbound travel from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, March 3. Flaggers & a pilot car will assist drivers through the work zone. US 60 between Superior & Miami will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, Wednesday, March 5, & Thursday, March 6. Flagging operations will be in effect before & after the full closures. Schedules are subject to change based on weather & other unforeseen factors. Lane restrictions, speed reductions & a 12-foot vehicle width restriction will be in place for the duration of the project. Oversize loads may be accommodated with advance notice. Drivers should allow extra travel time, use caution, be prepared to slow down & merge safely when approaching and traveling through all work zones.

Saturday, March 15, 2025: Globe, AZ “Besh Ba Gowah Free Admission Day,” including “Old Time Religion? The Salado Phenomenon in the US Southwest” presentation sponsored by the City of Globe and Old Pueblo Archaeology Center (Tucson) at Besh Ba Gowah Archaeological Park and Museum, 1324 S. Jesse Hayes Rd., Globe, Arizona 9 am-4:30 pm; food vendors 11 am-3 pm; presentation 1-2:30 pm. Free Admission. A reconstructed portion of the Besh Ba Gowah pueblo (https://www.globeaz.gov/page/besh-ba-gowah-museum) The Besh Ba Gowah Archaeological Park and Museum will host a Free Public Admission Day in celebration of Arizona Archaeology and Heritage Awareness Month. Visitors may enjoy self-guided tours of the Park and Museum at no cost. Food vendors will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and archaeologist Allen Dart (Old Pueblo Archaeology Center) will present “Old-Time Religion? The Salado Phenomenon in the US Southwest” at 1 p.m. Presentation description: The Besh Ba Gowah archaeological site preserved by the City of Globe is a prime example of what archaeologists call the “Salado phenomenon.” When first recognized by archaeologists in the early twentieth century, a constellation of peculiar cultural traits – including polychrome (three-colored) pottery, above-ground housing often enclosed in walled compounds, and monumental architecture – at Besh Ba Gowah and some other southwestern US archaeological sites was thought to be indicative of a distinct group of people: “the Salado.” As more and more research was done and the widespread distribution of Salado material culture became apparent, interpretations of what the Salado phenomenon represents were debated. In this presentation, archaeologist Allen Dart illustrates pottery and other cultural attributes of the so-called Salado culture, reviews some of the theories about the Salado, and discusses how Salado related to the Ancestral Pueblo, Mogollon, Hohokam, and Casas Grandes cultures of the "Greater Southwest" (the U.S. Southwest and Mexico's Northwest). For more information, visit www.globeaz.gov/page/besh-ba-gowah-museum or contact the Museum at 928-425-0320 or beshbagowah@globeaz.gov.

From Arizona Department of Transportation: US 60 between Superior and Miami to be closed until Friday Closure needed to safely remove unstable rock following blasting US 60 detour map Drivers should plan for an extended closure of US 60 between Superior and Miami as the Arizona Department of Transportation works to safely remove unstable rock that was exposed during blasting operations on Tuesday. While the highway had been scheduled to reopen at 2 p.m. Tuesday, ADOT crews estimate a multi-day operation is required to remove rock before the highway can safely be reopened to the traveling public. ADOT’s initial estimates are that the work will continue into Friday. The blasting operations are part of a project to replace the Queen Creek and Waterfall Canyon bridges on US 60 east of Superior. Until the highway can be reopened, a detour will remain in place on state routes 77 and 177 through Winkelman. The roughly 68-mile detour between Superior and Globe takes about an hour and includes a 10 percent grade. US 60 between Miami and Magma Mine Road, near milepost 231, will remain open for local traffic only. For more information on this project and to sign up for email alerts, please visit azdot.gov/US60QueenCreekBridgeProject. Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at az511.gov, the az511 app (download for Apple or Android devices) or by calling 511. For more information, please call the ADOT Bilingual Project Information Line at 855.712.8530 or go to azdot.gov/contact and select Projects from the drop-down menu. For real-time highway conditions statewide, visit ADOT's Traveler Information Site at www.az511.gov, download the AZ511 app or call 511. Need to know where a milepost is? Click on the "Mile Markers" icon on the map at www.az511.com. To plan your trip, get travel times or see ADOT cameras, download the AZ 511 app. The Arizona Department of Transportation advises drivers to use the designated detours when there are closures on state highways.
